We main focus of Qld Boat and Jetski Licence is for combined boat and jetski courses to avoid any confusion with the rules and requirements for holding a marine licence. With that said, we can arrange a stand alone licence happily. Please text us for more..
Please note that you must hold a Boat Licence to be able to get a Jetski Licence, which is why we have them as the only option at the best price in Queensland!
If you already have a Boat Licence, then you simply need to upgrade by completing a Jetski Licence only course.
Qld Boat and Jetski Licence is based at Runaway Bay. We meet at Jasmine Road Boat Ramp or a choice of Cafes near the waterfront. From there we will complete the theory component of the course, then take you out on the vessels for the practical boat and jetski licence training and assessment.
Our small classes mean personalised attention for students.
No. We include all the training and assessment required in each package to ensure your success getting your Boat and Jetski Licence.
You will have an additional fee when you go to Queensland Transport to get your licence issued, but this is the same no matter what licence provider you choose.
Failing theory exams:
FREE resits for ALL packages
Failing practical exams:
New to the water package – Infinite FREE resits
Ultimate package – Infinite FREE resits
Driven Vessels before package – $150 fee
PLEASE READ, this is only to stop people who are new to the water saying they have driven before. We can tell almost instantly whether you have driven before so please do not try to “trick the system”. Remember, getting your Boat and Jetski licence should not be to just have a licence, it is about your long term safety on the water. Most accidents on the water happen due to people not being prepared properly, or thinking they are capable of things that they are not. Be honest now so you can be safe later!
A $150 booking fee will be charged for the following scenarios.
Once you have booked into a course, your trainer will send you an email with a link to the online theory course.
The online course takes approximately 3-4 hours to complete and covers all the theory you will need for your training. At the end of the course, there is a quiz (practice test) for you to be able to test your knowledge prior to your assessment. You will need to bring the certificate of completion to the assessment day.
The minimum age to obtain a boat or PWC licence is 16. You can attend a course at 15½ yo as the statement of competency is valid for 6 months.
As a recap of your online training, here are a few short videos on things you need to know:
Navigating on the water (Collision Regulations)
Getting your Boat and Jetski licence is done in the following steps
At Qld Boat and Jetski Licence, we offer online training for your theory. This means you can spent 4-5 hours in the comfort of your own home learning the rules before your chosen Boat and Jetski Licence practical day on the beautiful waters of The Broadwater on the Gold Coast.
On the practical day, this is where each Boat and Jetski Licence provider separates one from another… some classes are small and some are large, some trainers are patient some are not, some boats are big old and hard to operate and some are new and custom built, some jetskis are top of the line and some are just cheap to run, some trainers hate jetskis and some ride them in their spare time.
Who you choose and why you choose them will determine the outcome of your day and success getting your Boat and Jetski Licence. To ensure your success and satisfaction we offer our courses to cater to your experience, without you having to read all the fine print and wonder what to expect on the day of your boat and jetski licence practical. There are groupon specials of a similar price with 8 people in the boat, which means 7 people waiting in turn watching you drive for over 7 hours, not a maximum of three people done within a three hour (or so) session.
We will show you the ABC of Boating, you will do a multiple choice exam session followed by a briefing and boat practical. This is where we will show you how to operate our small easy to drive vessel, demonstrate what is required, provide you with a practice run and then we will assess you on whether you are safe enough to hold a Boat Licence. If you select new to boating we will offer you more time to drive around to get comfortable and offer more practice attempts. If you have driven before, you will not need more any more practice runs as you should only need 1 attempt to get familiar with our easy to drive vessels.
The licence is valid for us in all states and issued for life. Once the boat licence component is complete and you are successful, you can enjoy what Gold Coast boating has to offer.
Then we will repeat the same process for the Boat Licence for the Jetski Licence component of the course.
If you already know how to drive a Boat & Jetski (PWC) and know the rules because you have been practising driving with friends/family/ Licenced skipper and studying on the rules, you should have access to the cheapest option.
By us saying “driven before”, you should be able to drive a new small tiller steer vessel and Jetski with ease. Each boat is different yes, but with a briefing on how to operate a vessel and one practice run, you should be able to confidently be assessed on operating a vessel.
If you are new to boating and have not driven a Boat or Jetski before, you really need the EXTRA TIME on the practical day to ensure you can operate a Boat and Jetski safely.
Once licenced, that’s it! No coming back for refreshers or renewal! So you need to make sure you have good foundational training or you could end up in serious trouble on the water.
Like most licence providers in Queensland, you will be charged $150 (Some charge even more!) if you fail to drive a vessel safely on your assessment attempt. Each place will offer a different amount of practice runs prior to your assessment.
If you select “Driven before”, we limit your practice runs, whereas if you select “New to Boating” we offer additional practice attempts until you are comfortable and confident driving a vessel, and if you fail to drive safely we will happily get you in on another day to repeat the course FREE of charge until you are successful.
